About the Role
Own the technical direction, architecture, and engineering delivery of BVNK's Fraud subdomain within FinCrime. Lead fraud detection and prevention architecture, integrate Unit21, establish engineering standards, mentor the squad, oversee reporting pipelines, and own production reliability and incident response.
Requirements
- 7+ years of backend engineering experience in Java or Kotlin with Spring Boot, including at least 2 years in a Tech Lead or senior technical leadership role.
- Strong distributed systems expertise with microservices, Kafka, SQS, MySQL or PostgreSQL on Aurora, and Redis.
- Experience with fraud detection, financial crime, risk systems, rule engines, risk scoring, or transaction monitoring.
- Understanding of velocity checks, device fingerprinting, behavioural analytics, risk tiering, and pre-auth/post-auth decision flows.
- Architectural leadership experience including technical vision, ADRs, architecture reviews, and high-stakes design decisions.
- Knowledge of domain-driven design, hexagonal architecture, and clean service boundaries.
- Experience designing low-latency, high-stakes real-time decision services on live transaction flows.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering, product, compliance, and fraud teams.
- Excellent communication and technical strategy presentation skills.
Responsibilities
- Define fraud engineering architecture for real-time decision services, enrichment pipelines, device and behavioural signals, fraud engine integration, and case management.
- Build and mentor the fraud engineering squad and support individual growth.
- Set engineering standards for coding, reviews, testing, and observability.
- Track and reduce technical debt while maintaining a healthy engineering culture.
- Lead cross-domain technical alignment across Payments Orchestration, Digital Assets, Onboarding, Fiat, FinCrime, and Back Office.
- Author and shepherd RFCs and technical briefs for architecture reviews.
- Build fraud reporting and metrics pipelines into Snowflake and QuickSight.
- Own observability, runbooks, alerting, on-call rotations, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
- Contribute hands-on engineering while balancing technical direction, team growth, and coordination.
