About the Role
You will lead a global organization of more than 50 engineers and own its technical vision, delivery, operations, talent strategy, and AI transformation. You will guide architecture and resilience, govern engineering quality and releases, oversee regulatory controls and incident management, develop engineering leaders, and align technology investments with ETF business priorities.
Requirements
- Have at least fifteen years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least five years in senior leadership managing large globally distributed engineering teams.
- Build and operate high-availability, mission-critical financial systems at scale.
- Demonstrate strong expertise in Java, microservices, Azure or AWS cloud infrastructure, Kafka, distributed databases, and CI/CD.
- Drive organizational design, talent development, and engineering culture in a fast-paced regulated environment.
- Demonstrate enterprise-scale delivery of resilience, operational excellence, and engineering efficiency.
- Communicate and influence effectively at the executive level across business and technology functions.
- Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
- Preferably have experience with ETF primary markets, capital markets technology, or investment management platforms.
- Preferably have led AI or generative AI adoption, tool evaluation, governance, and scaled implementation.
- Preferably understand financial-services compliance frameworks such as SOX, SEC, or FCA.
- Preferably have experience with Aladdin or a comparable enterprise investment management platform.
Responsibilities
- Define and drive the long-term technical vision for the ETF engineering platform.
- Own architecture decisions involving microservices, Kafka-based event-driven systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and APIs.
- Lead resilience strategy for critical ETF creation and redemption workflows.
- Establish and enforce standards for code quality, observability, CI/CD, automated testing, and release governance.
- Define and execute the AI and generative AI adoption strategy for ETF Engineering.
- Drive adoption of AI-assisted development, automated testing, and intelligent observability tools.
- Establish responsible AI governance, including model risk, data governance, and compliance controls.
- Evaluate, pilot, and scale AI capabilities with platform teams and vendors.
- Oversee delivery across multiple engineering teams using Agile and SAFe.
- Manage release governance, change management, cross-team dependencies, and external integrations.
- Ensure compliance with global regulations, internal risk policies, and the technology risk framework.
- Embed resilience, business continuity, and disaster recovery into system design.
- Own risk and control self-assessment obligations and audit readiness.
- Implement controls by design with risk, compliance, legal, and cybersecurity teams.
- Own production stability, support escalation, and incident management for global ETF applications.
- Improve mean time to recovery and operational efficiency.
- Lead and develop a globally distributed engineering organization.
- Own hiring, promotion calibration, organizational design, spans of control, and workforce planning.
- Develop engineering leaders at the vice president and director levels.
- Promote engineering excellence, continuous learning, innovation, and inclusion.
- Align engineering investments with product and commercial priorities.
- Partner with iShares, Capital Markets, Portfolio Management, and Operations leadership.
- Represent ETF Engineering in leadership forums and cross-product initiatives.
