About the Role
You will build legal capacity from the ground up, establish processes, determine outside-counsel strategy, and define internal policies. You will guide leadership on novel legal questions, negotiate agreements, manage legal risk and compliance, and provide employment-related guidance.
Requirements
- JD from an accredited law school
- Active California bar membership or ability to qualify as in-house counsel in California
- At least 10 years of experience including law-firm and in-house experience
- Familiarity with the AI space and frontier AI lab operations
- Experience managing external counsel
- Experience negotiating complex commercial contracts
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal guidance to leadership
- Lead contract negotiations with frontier AI companies
- Build contract-review processes and internal policies
- Ensure compliance with 501(c)(3) status, reporting requirements, and agreements
- Provide HR guidance on hiring, offer letters, visas, and terminations
