About the Role
You'll join as a deeply embedded, strategic legal advisor to teams across Product, Engineering, Compliance, Regulatory, Banking, Marketing, Finance and HR. You'll help shape and build new products by identifying and consulting on legal risks tied to their development, and you'll take the lead on drafting and negotiating exciting market-leading partnerships and embedded propositions. You'll partner with global teams across the UK, EU, South Africa, Singapore and San Francisco, advising on financial services requirements, payments, outsourcing, data privacy, intellectual property, employment law, financial crime matters, disputes, litigation and corporate governance. You'll draft, review and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements, review marketing materials for legal and regulatory compliance, and conduct ongoing legal research to keep the business ahead of evolving cryptocurrency and payments regulation.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience as a qualified lawyer in an in-house legal team, top law firm and/or a government agency
- Familiarity with UK and/or EU and/or US financial services laws and regulations including payments and ideally blockchain and digital assets
- Strong and extensive experience negotiating and drafting agreements with customers, partners and suppliers, including complex payment services-related agreements
- Experience in intra-group matters such as intra-group outsourcing and advising on corporate law matters
- Experience with corporate governance, employment matters, disputes and litigation is ideal but not mandatory
- Prior experience advising on product development at fast-moving technology companies is ideal
- Exceptional verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to simplify legal concepts
- Good understanding of cryptocurrency and fintech legal frameworks, or a strong interest in learning about cryptocurrency and blockchain technology
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with global teams including compliance, finance and product to advise on financial services requirements, payments, outsourcing, data privacy, intellectual property, employment laws, financial crime matters, disputes, litigation and corporate governance
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements including service contracts, outsourcing agreements, SaaS agreements and other complex transaction documentation
- Review marketing materials to ensure accuracy, legal and regulatory compliance, intellectual property protection, necessary disclosures and risk mitigation
- Assess and advise on legal risks and propose innovative and effective legal solutions
- Support the Legal Team with BVNK's global BAU activities and legal operations function
- Conduct legal research and stay current on laws and regulations covering cryptocurrency and payments
- Anticipate legal and commercial risks and prepare the business for them
