About the Role

You will analyze ERCOT power, cash, congestion, capacity, and natural-gas markets to identify trading opportunities and risks. You will develop dispatch, valuation, and risk models; execute trading and hedging strategies; manage collateral exposure; support deal valuation and contract representation; improve automation; and train junior colleagues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Engineering, Economics, Finance, or a related quantitative field
  • 5 years of commercial analysis experience in the energy industry
  • 5 years of power-markets experience
  • 1 year of experience with renewable-asset revenue streams
  • 1 year of experience with operating aspects of power assets
  • 3 years of experience supporting power trading, optimization, or asset management
  • 5 years of quantitative and analytical experience with market and risk modeling
  • Experience setting up a power trading desk across trading, risk, operations, and credit
  • Knowledge of renewable-asset revenue streams, operational drivers, analytical tools, and trading systems

Responsibilities

  • Analyze ERCOT real-time and cash markets for weather risk, price risk, and trading opportunities
  • Design and develop stack models for generator dispatch behavior and merit order in ERCOT
  • Develop and execute ERCOT trading strategies to achieve PnL targets
  • Support term trading strategies for asset energy exposure
  • Build and maintain fundamental natural-gas models
  • Evaluate capacity and resource adequacy markets across U.S. ISOs
  • Analyze basis and congestion markets and design portfolio risk-mitigation strategies
  • Develop and execute strategies for CRR auctions
  • Register legal entities as market participants in deregulated power and congestion markets
  • Monitor and manage collateral exposure
  • Develop commercial risk models, including historic and parametric VaR models
  • Mark forward curves for energy, basis, and capacity positions
  • Value merchant exposures for M&A and development assets
  • Improve models and automation
  • Contribute to complex contract negotiations
  • Ensure signed contracts are adequately booked and represented in ETRM systems
  • Follow model-validation and risk-quantification processes
  • Own analyses and recommendations for trading, hedging, and investment decisions
  • Train and develop junior team members
