About the Role
You act as the named nominated officer for the UK entity and hold personal accountability for detecting, preventing, and reporting financial crime. You own the financial crime control environment, including risk assessments, AML and CTF policies, customer due diligence, transaction monitoring, sanctions, Travel Rule compliance, suspicious activity reporting, regulatory engagement, governance, assurance, remediation, training, and leadership of UK financial crime staff. You also drive the FCA cryptoasset authorisation application and serve as its financial crime point of contact.
Requirements
- 8+ years in financial crime compliance
- Meaningful experience in an FCA-regulated firm
- Prior service as MLRO, deputy MLRO, or nominated officer
- Personal SAR and DAML decision-making experience
- Working knowledge of the Money Laundering Regulations 2017
- Working knowledge of POCA 2002
- Working knowledge of the Terrorism Act 2000
- Working knowledge of JMLSG guidance
- Working knowledge of the FCA Financial Crime Guide
- Ownership of a business-wide risk assessment, transaction monitoring framework, or sanctions programme
- Regulator-facing experience
- Capability to drive a licence application and act as its external face
- Fit and proper status for approval as a senior manager function holder
Responsibilities
- Act as the named nominated officer for the UK entity
- Own suspicious activity reporting to the National Crime Agency
- Maintain direct access to the Board
- Ensure continuing fitness and propriety
- Ensure continuous coverage of the nominated officer function
- Own the UK business-wide risk assessment
- Own the AML and CTF policy suite and supporting procedures
- Govern the customer due diligence framework
- Own transaction monitoring rule design, calibration, and governance
- Ensure the control framework is evidenced for supervisory inspection
- Own the UK sanctions compliance framework
- Own Travel Rule compliance
- Govern blockchain analytics and wallet screening
- Assess new assets, chains, payment methods, and jurisdictions
- Maintain readiness for asset freeze and reporting events
- Serve as a primary regulatory point of contact for the FCA
- Drive the FCA cryptoasset authorisation application
- Own regulatory reporting obligations
- Translate regulatory change into operational control change
- Build relationships with supervisors
- Produce the MLRO Annual Report
- Chair or co-own the AML and CFT Committee
- Provide financial crime management information to the Board and Group Leadership
- Own remediation delivery for financial crime findings
- Support independent testing and assurance of the AML framework
- Advise the business on financial crime risk
- Lead and develop UK financial crime staff
- Deliver targeted financial crime training
- Champion a speak-up culture on financial crime
- Act as a visible financial crime authority
