About the Role
Build and operate data governance and security practices across the lakehouse, analytics tools, and internal data products. Define classification, access, ownership, quality, inventory, and lineage standards; review vendors and data use cases; support sensitive and cross-border data requests; prepare audit evidence; track risks; and establish guardrails for AI-enabled data workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years in data governance, data security, GRC, privacy engineering, or a related field
- At least 2 years working with modern data platforms
- Understanding of DAMA-DMBOK, NIST, or similar governance frameworks
- Experience building or operating data classification, access-control, or entitlement-review programs
- Familiarity with cloud data platforms and analytics tooling
- Knowledge of GDPR, CCPA, cross-border transfers, and financial-services privacy requirements
- Experience supporting SOC 2, ISO 27001, or similar audits
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- CIPT, CIPM, CISM, CISSP, CDMP, CRISC, or similar certification preferred
- Experience with Trino, Apache Ranger, dbt, Cube, Metabase, Airflow, or Iceberg preferred
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain data governance policies, classification standards, ownership models, and exception processes
- Own data access governance for the lakehouse and analytics stack
- Define entitlement standards and periodic access reviews
- Implement least-privilege access across data and analytics tools
- Work with Data Engineering on Ranger policies, schema restrictions, and service-account management
- Set data quality standards and track improvements
- Maintain data inventory, metadata, and lineage documentation
- Review data vendors and new analytics and AI use cases
- Support sensitive and cross-border data requests
- Prepare evidence for SOC 2, ISO 27001, CSA STAR, partner reviews, and regulatory examinations
- Track data risks and control gaps in the ERM program
- Provide governance guidance on access, classification, and tooling
- Define guardrails for AI and agentic use of corporate data
