About the Role
You will lead criminal referrals, civil litigation, arbitration, regulatory enforcement responses, and sensitive internal investigations across the region. You will manage the regional contentious docket, external counsel, budgets, reporting, relationships with authorities, and development of the in-region legal team.
Requirements
- Admission as a solicitor or barrister in Hong Kong
- Based in Hong Kong or Singapore
- At least 12 years of post-qualification experience in contentious work
- Asia experience
- Prosecutorial or criminal enforcement background
- Arbitration and trial experience
- Track record leading a team
- Prior in-house experience is preferred
- Sound judgment under ambiguity
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Professional working proficiency in Mandarin and/or Cantonese is strongly preferred
- Willingness to travel across the region
- Current right to work in Singapore without visa sponsorship is prioritized
- Additional qualification in England and Wales Singapore New York California Texas Australia or another common law jurisdiction is welcome
- Experience in crypto digital assets fintech traditional finance or payments is advantageous
- Experience with Middle East disputes and enforcement is advantageous
Responsibilities
- Own the framework for criminal referrals and prosecution support
- Build referral files with Risk and Compliance teams
- Drive referred matters through charging and prosecution
- Manage relationships with police and prosecutors
- Lead the regional civil litigation docket
- Manage affirmative and defensive civil disputes
- Lead commercial disputes
- Lead regional arbitrations and enforcement proceedings
- Assess mass arbitration exposure and develop mitigation plans
- Advise on dispute resolution clauses
- Lead responses to regulatory enforcement inquiries
- Conduct sensitive internal investigations and coordinate remediation
- Lead and develop the in-region team
- Select and manage external counsel and experts
- Own the regional contentious budget
- Track matters and disclosures
- Deliver reporting to leadership and governance forums
