About the Role
You will lead state and local government affairs across the Midwest. You will build relationships with government and community stakeholders, track and analyze legislation, represent policy positions, develop campaign messaging, manage outside advisors and lobbyists, and coordinate regional activity with policy, communications, legal, and executive stakeholders. You will travel regularly.
Requirements
- Experience in state and local government affairs, political strategy, or legislative roles
- Demonstrated legislative and regulatory outcomes
- Existing relationships with Midwest state and local leaders
- Knowledge of state legislative, executive, regulatory, and local-government processes
- Experience delivering measurable outcomes in government-affairs roles
- Ability to travel regularly across the region
- 8+ years of relevant government-affairs, political-strategy, or legislative experience
- Experience building partnerships with chambers of commerce, economic-development groups, labor organizations, or universities
- Technology-policy or emerging-technology-regulation experience
- Coalition-building experience
- Experience translating technical topics for policymakers and residents
- Experience developing policy-campaign messaging
Responsibilities
- Lead state and local government affairs across the Midwest
- Build relationships with legislators, governors' offices, attorneys general, agencies, and local officials
- Track and analyze legislation and regulatory proceedings affecting AI and technology
- Build partnerships with regional organizations and community stakeholders
- Represent policy positions at hearings, events, and public forums
- Develop regional policy-campaign messaging with Communications
- Translate technical research and policy positions into regional engagement strategies
- Manage outside advisors and registered lobbyists
- Coordinate regional work with policy, communications, legal, and executive stakeholders
