About the Role

You build across the Otto AI agent platform, including its runtime, agent graph, tool layer, Rails and GraphQL backend, advocate-facing experience, and evaluation systems. You expand safe autonomous actions, develop observability, work with LLMs, improve retrieval and prompting, partner across functions, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

  • Typically 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience shipping LLM-powered or agentic systems in production
  • Experience with tool-calling, agents, retrieval, or evaluations
  • Full-stack software engineering experience
  • Experience owning multi-quarter projects
  • Judgment regarding safety and blast radius
  • Mentoring experience
  • Experience with agent frameworks, evaluations, retrieval, or MCP-style architectures
  • Ruby on Rails or JavaScript/React experience
  • GraphQL familiarity

Responsibilities

  • Design and build the Otto platform
  • Develop the runtime, agent graph, and tool layer
  • Build Rails and GraphQL backend services
  • Build the advocate-facing experience
  • Expand safe autonomous tool-using actions
  • Implement identity and permissions models
  • Build evaluation and observability systems
  • Work with LLM prompting, tools, retrieval, and feedback loops
  • Partner with Product, Data, Design, and CX teams
  • Mentor engineers
