About the Role
You will serve as the primary legal advisor supporting growth into new markets, including Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. You will draft and negotiate high-value commercial contracts, implement and improve contracting processes, manage company secretarial matters, support employment and disciplinary matters, design procedures to manage claims and disputes, develop data privacy compliance strategies, provide regulatory and licensing support for mobile money operations, liaise with external counsel, and work with risk teams to implement legal mitigations. Expect to travel to operating markets as required.
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited law school
- Qualified lawyer in a Francophone African jurisdiction (OHADA, Cameroon or DRC)
- 8+ years of in-house legal experience in technology, finance, fintech or mobile money
- Fluent in French and English
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Excellent legal drafting skills
- Strong planning, organizational and management skills with ability to meet deadlines
Responsibilities
- Draft and negotiate contracts for core products and services
- Engage in complex and high-value contract negotiations
- Manage and improve the contracting process and contract management tools
- Implement group legal policies and recommend updates
- Centralize and maintain legal documentation and records
- Implement procedures to manage claims, mediation, arbitration and litigation
- Provide legal support for employment contracts, disciplinary matters and terminations
- Manage company secretarial matters across legal entities
- Work with Risk and Controls to implement legal risk mitigations and controls
- Develop and execute data privacy compliance strategy and engage regulators
- Provide regulatory and licensing support including mobile money license applications
- Build and manage relationships with external law firms
- Travel to operating markets as required
