About the Role
You will perform hands-on capacity and performance engineering for mainframe middleware. You will investigate CICS, MQ, WAS, Kafka, and ODM workloads; analyze metrics and incidents; build repeatable reports, scripts, and dashboards; document findings; and support production, changes, and stress testing.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with one or more IBM mainframe middleware domains, including CICS, MQ, WAS, Liberty, Compute Grid, Kafka integration, or ODM
- Working knowledge of z/OS, SMF/RMF data, GP/zIIP use, memory, Coupling Facility, zFS, log streams, and subsystem interactions
- Experience in performance monitoring, problem determination, capacity reporting, application support, systems programming, or production engineering
- Experience with analysis platforms such as SYSVIEW, IntelliMagic, OMEGAMON, SAS/MXG, Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, or PostgreSQL
- Ability to interpret technical metrics, isolate likely causes, test assumptions, and communicate findings
- Typically 7 plus years of technology experience
Responsibilities
- Analyze CICS performance, behavior, and application usage
- Analyze IBM MQ queue managers, channels, connections, and tuning opportunities
- Support WAS, Liberty, Java Batch, and Compute Grid workload analysis
- Analyze Kafka MQ connector performance and tuning
- Gather and analyze performance metrics from mainframe and observability tools
- Create SAS and REXX programs for performance reporting and metric collection
- Develop and maintain Grafana dashboards and Python-based metric collection
- Investigate subsystem behavior using SYSVIEW and IntelliMagic
- Analyze Java and JVM dumps and support problem determination
- Document analysis methods, findings, recommendations, scripts, dashboards, and procedures
- Participate in production support, incident analysis, change validation, stress testing, and after-hours support
