About the Role
You will define long-term technical architecture, design resilient distributed systems for global payments, lead complex engineering initiatives, drive modernization, establish engineering standards, implement AI-enabled systems, shape stablecoin and blockchain strategy, and mentor senior engineers.
Requirements
- Approximately 12–18 years of software engineering experience
- Experience at Staff+, Senior Staff, Principal Engineer, Architect, or equivalent level
- Deep expertise in distributed systems, backend architecture, APIs, microservices, cloud infrastructure, and event-driven systems
- Strong hands-on software engineering and architecture capabilities
- Experience leading technically complex initiatives across multiple teams
- Ability to influence technical strategy without direct authority
- Experience in fintech, payments, financial services, or another high-scale regulated technology environment
- Understanding of scalability, data consistency, reliability, security, fault tolerance, and production operations
- Excellent communication skills for explaining technical trade-offs to executive and non-technical audiences
- Ability to operate in a fast-moving, ambiguous, and entrepreneurial environment
Responsibilities
- Define and drive long-term technical architecture across payments, platform, data, integration, and operational systems
- Design scalable, resilient, secure, and highly available distributed systems
- Lead complex cross-functional engineering initiatives
- Drive modernization, improve platform scalability, and reduce technical debt
- Establish standards for architecture, reliability, observability, security, testing, and operational excellence
- Lead AI transformation initiatives across engineering and operations
- Design and implement systems using AI agents, LLM workflows, intelligent automation, and AI-assisted developer tooling
- Shape strategy around stablecoins, blockchain, digital assets, and modern payment rails
- Evaluate emerging technologies, settlement mechanisms, fintech protocols, and platform investments
- Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders
- Advise executive and engineering leadership on technical decisions
- Translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions
