About the Role
Lead database development within Spice.ai OSS, designing and building high-performance database engine features across Spice.ai, Apache DataFusion, Arrow, Iceberg, and duckdb-rs. Work with founders, contribute to the Spice.ai Cloud Platform, improve product offerings, and collaborate directly with enterprise customers.
Requirements
- 2+ years of professional Rust experience or 5+ years of professional C/C++ experience
- Experience designing, implementing, scaling, and shipping production database engines, distributed systems, and data systems
- Track record of strong design, architectural, engineering, and product decisions
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to ramp up quickly and hit the ground running
- Ideally, experience contributing to open-source projects
- Experience with Apache infrastructure, the CNCF stack, or cloud-native development
Responsibilities
- Work side-by-side with the founders as a leader and contributor in the Spice.ai open-source project
- Design and build features for the Spice.ai Cloud Platform
- Own initiatives that improve product offerings and developer experiences
- Work directly with enterprise customers to enable their scenarios
