About the Role
You will turn laboratory workflow needs into engineering requirements and own mechanical systems from concept through installation. You will design equipment and instrumentation, produce CAD and manufacturing documentation, program and troubleshoot robots, assemble hardware, manage external manufacturing, and apply engineering and process safety controls.
Requirements
- 2+ years of mechanical design experience with hands-on and vendor-facing manufacturing exposure
- CAD proficiency, including Onshape or equivalent
- Hand calculations
- Requirements development and project ownership from concept to completion
- Hands-on hardware assembly and build experience
- Experience translating scientist and technician workflow needs into engineering requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or similar experience
Responsibilities
- Translate laboratory workflow needs into engineering requirements and hardware solutions
- Design and build laboratory automation systems and subsystems from concept through installation
- Lay out and design gloveboxes, furnaces, presses, deposition equipment, and consumables
- Design and customize laboratory machines and instrumentation
- Program and troubleshoot robots integrated into laboratory workflows
- Produce CAD, mechanical drawings, GD&T, and design documentation
- Assemble hardware and manage subcontracted machining, additive manufacturing, sheet metal, and welding
- Apply engineering and process safety controls throughout design and build
