About the Role
You will translate complex legacy payments systems and customer constraints into clear, workable integrations using Polygon’s payments stack. You will independently scope integrations, lead technical discovery, build lightweight prototypes and middleware to demonstrate feasibility, and unblock deals. You will guide customers through ambiguous technical requirements, support initial implementations, and act as a technical escalation point when integrations face complexity.
Requirements
- Strong background in payments, fintech, or financial infrastructure
- Hands-on familiarity with fund flows, settlement, reconciliation, disputes, and money movement
- Deep familiarity with legacy payment systems and real-world integration constraints
- Prior experience in solutions engineering, sales engineering, or technical pre-sales roles at payments companies
- Proven ability to operate independently with minimal guidance
- Strong customer empathy and ability to explain complex systems clearly
- Comfortable coding and building small technical solutions or prototypes
- Solid understanding of APIs, webhooks, payment integrations, and system architecture
- Distributed systems experience (helpful but not required)
Responsibilities
- Support business development in late-stage deals and technical evaluations
- Lead technical discovery with customers for legacy payments, fund flows, and compliance
- Align customer business models with scalable payment architectures
- Translate customer business and system requirements into implementation plans
- Design and explain integrations for wallets
- Design and explain integrations for payment APIs
- Design and explain integrations for KYC/KYB, onboarding, risk, and compliance
- Design and explain integrations for widgets, SDKs, hosted components, and embedded payment experiences
- Develop reference architectures, integration diagrams, payment flow documentation, and technical walkthroughs
- Serve as the technical authority in customer discussions
- Demonstrate expertise in payment authorization rates, conversion optimization, and transaction success metrics
- Identify gaps between product capabilities and customer needs
- Differentiate existing features from roadmap items and custom development needs
- Clarify ambiguous customer requests into clear technical scopes
- Negotiate tradeoffs with customers to close deals when requirements don't align
- Collaborate with sales to resolve payment integration risks and unblock deals
- Work with product and engineering to guide roadmap decisions based on customer demand
- Influence pricing, limits, and launch phases based on technical constraints
- Build lightweight prototypes, middleware, or example implementations
- Rapidly prototype small systems or applets ('vibe code') to demonstrate feasibility
- Read and reason about customer codebases, API specs, and architecture diagrams
- Help customers integrate modern systems when internal infrastructure is outdated or rigid
- Anticipate scale, failure modes, and operational complexity in production payments systems
- Support initial customer implementations and early production issues
- Act as a technical escalation point for complex integrations
- Define scalable post-sales support models over time
