About the Role
You will design high-voltage substations and transmission switchyards from concept through commissioning, covering systems from 34.5 kV to 345 kV. You will prepare electrical studies and design documents, specify major equipment, coordinate with utilities and contractors, review vendor drawings, and support testing, commissioning, and energization.
Requirements
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in high-voltage substation engineering
- Experience designing substations from 34.5 kV through 345 kV
- Experience with utility interconnections and transmission systems
- Knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NESC, and applicable utility standards
- Experience with grounding design, protection coordination, and relay applications
- PE license preferred or ability to obtain
- Occasional travel to job sites
- Experience with AI or hyperscale data centers, BESS, transmission switchyards, or substation configurations preferred
- Experience with ETAP, CDEGS, ASPEN, SKM, AutoCAD, or Bluebeam preferred
Responsibilities
- Develop electrical and physical designs for high-voltage substations and switchyards
- Develop one-line diagrams, protection philosophies, grounding systems, station layouts, and equipment specifications
- Prepare short-circuit studies, grounding analyses, lightning protection designs, cable sizing, and AC/DC station service calculations when applicable
- Prepare station arrangements, elevations, sectional views, grounding details, conduit details, foundation details, steel details, and control building details
- Specify and coordinate power transformers, gas circuit breakers, disconnect switches, instrument transformers, and protection and control systems
- Coordinate with utilities, EPC contractors, civil engineers, structural engineers, transmission line engineers, and protection engineers
- Review vendor drawings
- Provide technical guidance during procurement and construction
- Support factory acceptance testing, commissioning, and energization
