About the Role
You will provide scientific leadership and strategic direction for medicinal chemistry projects through clinical candidate nomination. You will manage and mentor a growing department, guide chemistry leads, champion AI-enabled drug design, coordinate with computational drug design, biology, and preclinical development, manage CRO resources, and represent the organisation to collaborators.
Requirements
- PhD in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related technical field, or equivalent industrial experience
- At least 15 years of industrial experience in pharma, biotech, or CRO settings
- Track record of leading medicinal chemistry efforts from hit identification through lead optimisation or candidate nomination
- Familiarity with DMPK optimisation
- Experience in line management, mentorship, and scientific talent development
- Experience managing CRO resources
- Track record of scientific achievement through publications, patents, and presentations
Responsibilities
- Oversee and deliver the London drug design portfolio
- Provide technical portfolio guidance and strategically guide Chemistry Leads
- Manage and mentor a growing team of Medicinal Chemists
- Champion the use of AI tools in medicinal chemistry
- Coordinate Chemistry, Computational Drug Design, Biology, and Pre-Clinical Development
- Manage CRO resources and monitor delivery KPIs
- Represent the organisation to existing and prospective collaborators
- Optimise drug discovery workflows and support professional development
