About the Role
Lead the full grant lifecycle, including intake, diligence, structuring, approval, payment, monitoring, reporting, and closeout. Set operational standards, controls, and risk posture. Advise on US charitable grantmaking, cross-border grants, grants to individuals, DAF grants, and non-standard grant structures. Partner with program and finance stakeholders, lead and develop the Grants Operations team, and build scalable systems, procedures, documentation, and reporting.
Requirements
- Substantial hands-on experience in US charitable grantmaking
- Deep knowledge of domestic 501(c)(3) grants, grants to non-charities, grants to individuals, international grantmaking, public charity lobbying limits, and DAF rules
- Experience structuring non-standard grants compliantly
- Experience streamlining or automating manual operations
- Calibrated judgment on high-stakes grantmaking decisions and external-counsel needs
- Experience influencing Program Officers and Heads of Funds through expertise
- Experience managing and developing people
- US residency
Responsibilities
- Own the full grant lifecycle across funds
- Set grantmaking standards, controls, and risk posture
- Partner with Program Officers, Heads of Funds, and Finance on grantmaking workflows and handoffs
- Serve as the in-house authority on US charitable grantmaking
- Own diligence, sanctions screening, and audit-ready recordkeeping
- Lead cross-border grantmaking and grants to individuals
- Advise on DAF grantmaking and alternative grantmaking structures
- Find compliant approaches for non-standard grants
- Lead and develop the Grants Operations team
- Design scalable grantmaking systems, SOPs, templates, and internal guidance
- Set direction for the grants-management system, documentation standards, and board reporting
- Improve monitoring and evaluation processes with Program Officers and Heads of Funds
