About the Role
The General Manager will lead Bitdeer's Ethiopian operations, including strategic planning, market entry, data center construction and operations, government relations, regulatory compliance, financial management, budgeting, business development, and team building.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
- MBA or equivalent management background strongly preferred.
- At least 8-10 years of management experience in data centers, cloud computing, IT infrastructure, or related industries.
- At least 5 years of experience in senior roles such as General Manager, Operations Director, or Project Director.
- Experience managing the full lifecycle of data center projects.
- Familiarity with Uptime Tier Standards, ISO 27001, and PUE optimization.
- Experience in emerging markets, especially Africa, is a significant plus.
- Deep understanding of data center technologies including power systems, cooling solutions, and network architecture.
- Familiarity with cloud computing, hybrid IT, storage, and edge computing.
- Ability to manage capital-intensive projects while ensuring strong ROI.
- Cryptocurrency industry background or management experience preferred.
- Connections with the local government of Ethiopia will be given priority.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement medium- and long-term strategic plans for operational excellence and business growth.
- Analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, and customer needs to create business strategies.
- Build client relationships, renew contracts, and cultivate new customer opportunities.
- Develop strategic partnerships with cloud providers, enterprise clients, and government organizations.
- Establish relationships with government officials, regulators, and local authorities.
- Represent the company at government meetings, events, and negotiations.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting data center construction and IT operations.
- Oversee data center projects from feasibility studies through planning, design, construction, and commissioning.
- Supervise data center operation and maintenance to ensure efficiency, reliability, and security.
- Update headquarters on project progress and provide contingency plans for delays.
- Develop and manage annual budgets and forecast costs, expenses, and revenue.
- Optimize resources for the financial health and sustainable growth of Ethiopian operations.
- Implement quality assurance processes and build a high-performing management team.
