About the Role
Own financial accountability and visibility across engineering-related spend. Partner with Engineering, Product, and Finance to make spending transparent and aligned with business priorities, while enabling teams to understand, own, and optimize their costs.
Requirements
- 6–10+ years of relevant experience at the intersection of engineering, infrastructure, data, or finance in a cloud-native or SaaS environment.
- Experience partnering with engineering teams on cloud, data, AI/ML, or SaaS spend decisions.
- Understanding of cloud-native architectures, including compute, storage, networking, data pipelines, and managed services.
- Strong foundation in cost analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and variance management.
- Comfort writing SQL or using AI-assisted tools to explore and validate data.
- Experience building clear dashboards and BI artifacts.
- Success driving cost-awareness adoption and behavior change.
- Experience delivering cross-functional programs without direct authority.
- Familiarity with FinOps principles, showback/chargeback, unit economics, and optimization strategies.
- Strong communication skills for technical, financial, and executive audiences.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and analyze engineering spend across cloud, AI/ML, data platforms, and SaaS.
- Identify trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities.
- Build and maintain engineering spend forecasts.
- Partner with Finance and engineering leaders on drivers, assumptions, and risks.
- Incorporate cost considerations into roadmaps and architectural decisions.
- Lead rightsizing, commitment strategy, and workload efficiency initiatives.
- Create dashboards and reporting for engineers and executives.
- Implement showback, chargeback, unit economics, and cost ownership frameworks.
- Partner on tooling and automation for cost visibility and forecasting accuracy.
- Drive alignment and behavior change through data-driven decision making.
