About the Role
You own the fraud risk strategy and end-to-end defense architecture across the payments stack. You manage detection rules, models, thresholds, chargebacks, disputes, investigations, and incident response. You design governed AI-assisted workflows, lead vendor and partner relationships, report risk economics to executives, and build a team of analysts and scientists. You also drive root-cause fixes across payment, compliance, and customer-journey systems while maintaining auditable, evidence-based controls.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in payments risk, fraud, or dispute operations within financial services or cryptocurrency
- 3+ years leading a risk, fraud, or trust and safety function
- Knowledge of card authorization, decline flows, chargebacks, representment economics, Visa and Mastercard dispute rules, and card-network monitoring programs
- Working knowledge of ACH and real-time payment rails
- Fluency in crypto risk, including wallet behavior, on-chain flows, and cash-out typologies
- Hands-on administration of fraud prevention platforms such as Sardine, SEON, Sift, Kount, or Forter
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with log, observability, and analytics platforms
- Experience building or governing AI-assisted operational workflows
- Ability to document processes, cross-train teams, and build durable systems
- Experience influencing processes and fixing root causes across other teams
- Experience hiring, developing, and retaining analysts
- Strong evidence-based judgment and communication skills for technical and executive audiences
- Experience with Sardine or card processor integrations such as TabaPay
- Experience applying MITRE ATT&CK, AADAPT, or F3 frameworks to fraud
- Experience with blockchain analytics tools such as TRM Labs, Chainalysis, or Elliptic
- BSA/AML and SAR familiarity
- Experience with LLM agent frameworks or workflow-automation platforms
- Familiarity with dbt, warehouse modeling, and product analytics
- CFE, CAMS, or FRM certification or an advanced degree in a relevant field
Responsibilities
- Own the fraud risk strategy and defense architecture across the payments stack
- Tune rules, thresholds, models, and velocity limits against fraud-capture and false-positive tradeoffs
- Manage chargeback and dispute strategy, reporting, and card-network monitoring
- Lead fraud investigations and incident response using vendor logs, application telemetry, and processor responses
- Design and govern AI-assisted workflows for queue triage, decline forensics, fraud-ring detection, chargeback evidence assembly, and monitoring
- Build, coach, and develop risk analysts and scientists
- Create documentation and runbooks for risk operations
- Drive root-cause fixes across payment flows, compliance workflows, account lifecycle systems, and internal tooling
- Manage vendor and partner relationships, including rules, integrations, data quality, SLAs, escalations, and roadmaps
- Coordinate risk posture with processors, sponsor banks, and platform partners
- Report risk mitigation actions, loss exposure, performance metrics, and profitability impacts to executives
