About the Role
You will support the design and development of structural systems for autonomous aircraft launch and recovery vehicles. You will work through concept development, CAD, tolerance analysis, material selection, drawing release, prototyping, testing, and production readiness. You will perform structural and kinematic calculations and FEA, collaborate across disciplines, and improve design processes and configuration management.
Requirements
- B.S. in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
- 2+ years of mechanical or mechanism design experience for ground vehicles
- Strong CAD skills
- Structural analysis using hand calculations and finite element methods
- Understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-ups for mechanical systems
- Materials selection including alloys, heat treatments, allowables, and finishes
- Ability to obtain an S//SAR level security clearance
Responsibilities
- Support design of complex structures for the autonomous aircraft launch and recovery system
- Support design from concept through CAD, tolerance analysis, material selection, and drawing release
- Perform structural and kinematic calculations and preliminary FEA
- Prototype, test, and iterate mechanism designs for functionality and reliability
- Collaborate with electrical, avionics, flight controls, manufacturing, and test teams
- Support pre-production builds, prototype integration, and ground and flight testing
- Participate in structural-system design reviews and technical decision-making
- Improve design processes, configuration management, and team workflows
