About the Role
You will lead the commissioning and quality assurance program for data center development projects. You will establish commissioning standards, test plans, quality processes, and documentation; oversee project execution and third-party providers; manage readiness testing and handover to operations; and report delivery risks and performance to executives and customers.
Requirements
- 12+ years of experience in commissioning, quality assurance, or critical systems engineering
- At least 7 years of experience in data center or mission-critical facility environments
- Experience owning commissioning and quality assurance functions, or deep expertise in one with working knowledge of the other
- Experience developing commissioning programs for hyperscale or colocation projects
- Experience managing third-party commissioning agents, inspection firms, and multi-discipline test teams across concurrent projects
- Strong knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical systems
- Knowledge of construction quality requirements across civil, structural, and architectural scopes
- Proficiency with commissioning documentation and issue-tracking platforms
- Knowledge of ISO 9001, AISC Quality Certification, and ACI inspection standards
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC9.9, and NFPA 70/75/76
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
Responsibilities
- Develop and continuously improve the commissioning program, including plans, test scripts, acceptance criteria, and documentation requirements
- Establish commissioning standards for pre-functional, functional performance, integrated systems, and operational acceptance testing
- Build and maintain scalable commissioning test scripts, checklists, issue logs, and turnover templates
- Establish and lead the end-to-end QA/QC program across design, procurement, and construction
- Develop quality management plans, inspection and test plans, hold points, witness points, and documentation requirements
- Conduct or oversee field quality inspections and audits across active job sites
- Lead commissioning planning and execution directly or through third-party commissioning agents
- Review drawings and specifications for commissionability during the design phase
- Develop project commissioning schedules and flag critical-path risks
- Chair commissioning and QA coordination meetings and drive issue resolution
- Lead or oversee Level 4 and Level 5 integrated systems testing
- Implement lessons-learned processes and update design and construction standards based on findings
- Publish quality and commissioning performance reports for executive leadership
- Own commissioning-to-operations handover, including documentation, as-built verification, O&M manuals, and operator training coordination
- Coordinate witness testing with customers, auditors, and certification bodies
- Build, mentor, and lead an internal commissioning and quality assurance team
- Manage third-party commissioning agents, testing vendors, and inspection firms
- Define commissioning and quality requirements in contractor and vendor contracts
- Present program status, risks, and delivery-readiness reports to executives and customers
