About the Role
The Director of Data Center Commissioning & Quality Assurance owns commissioning and QA/QC programs across data center development projects, ensuring facilities are tested, validated, constructed to standard, and successfully transitioned to operations.
Requirements
- 12+ years of commissioning, quality assurance, or critical systems engineering experience.
- At least 7 years in data center or mission-critical facility environments.
- Experience owning commissioning and quality assurance functions.
- Experience leading commissioning programs on hyperscale or colocation projects.
- Experience managing third-party agents, inspection firms, and multidisciplinary test teams.
- Strong knowledge of data center mechanical and electrical systems.
- Familiarity with civil, structural, and architectural construction quality requirements.
- Proficiency with commissioning documentation and issue-tracking platforms.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AISC Quality Certification, and ACI inspection standards.
- Familiarity with Uptime Institute Tier Standards, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC9.9, and NFPA 70/75/76.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as CCP, CPMP, or CQE are an asset.
Responsibilities
- Develop and continuously improve commissioning programs, plans, test scripts, acceptance criteria, and documentation.
- Establish procedures for pre-functional, functional, integrated systems, and operational acceptance testing.
- Lead the end-to-end QA/QC program across design, procurement, and construction.
- Oversee inspections, audits, commissioning agents, testing vendors, and issue resolution.
- Manage project commissioning schedules, critical-path risks, and coordination meetings.
- Lead or oversee Level 4 and Level 5 integrated systems testing.
- Drive lessons learned, quality reporting, and continuous improvement.
- Own commissioning-to-operations handover, including as-builts, O&M manuals, and operator training.
- Build and lead an internal commissioning and QA team.
- Present program status, risks, and delivery readiness to executives and customers.
