About the Role
As Vice President, Casualty Treaty Underwriter, you will underwrite and manage a portfolio of casualty treaty reinsurance business, ensuring alignment with SiriusPoint's risk appetite and strategic objectives. You will evaluate submissions, analyze cedant data, assess pricing and loss trends, and structure treaty terms while participating in negotiations. You will report to the Head of US Casualty Reinsurance Underwriting, and you'll work closely with actuarial, legal, brokers, and cedants to drive strong underwriting outcomes and build lasting relationships across the market.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent
- 5 - 7 years experience in reinsurance and/or casualty underwriting (treaty preferred, other strong relevant experience considered)
- Experience structuring and negotiating casualty treaty terms and conditions in collaboration with actuarial, legal, and other functional areas
- Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills
- Proficiency with Excel and data analysis, comfortable working with underwriting systems and portfolio tools
- Progress toward, or interest in pursuing, relevant designations (e.g., ARe, CPCU, RPLU) is an asset
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and service a proportional US casualty treaty portfolio (GL, Excess/Umbrella, WC, Professional Lines) consistent with underwriting authority and guidelines
- Evaluate submissions, analyze cedant performance, exposures, and loss experience, and partner with actuarial to support reinsurance pricing
- Review, negotiate, and finalize treaty wordings in collaboration with legal, ensuring consistency between intent, pricing, structure, and contractual terms
- Monitor performance, accumulations, concentrations, and volatility drivers, and identify emerging risks and optimization opportunities
- Lead renewal planning and execution, including deal strategy, file preparation, timely quotes, and referrals
- Build and maintain strong broker and cedant relationships and support new business development
- Participate in and complete underwriting audits and reviews, responding to findings and supporting remediation actions
- Contribute to technical underwriting excellence by sharing market insights, supporting tool development, and improving data quality
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior underwriters
- Adhere to operating standards to ensure compliance with underwriting authorities, governance standards, and internal controls
