Staff Robotics Engineer Localisation
Wayve is a London-headquartered embodied-AI company developing and licensing mapless, vehicle-agnostic driving software for assisted, automated, and robotaxi applications.
About Wayve
Wayve Technologies Ltd. develops the Wayve AI Driver, an end-to-end, data-trained software platform that runs on onboard vehicle compute and native sensors. It is designed for OEM integration across L1 driver assistance through L4 automated driving, without HD maps.

About the Role
You will lead the technical development of onboard localisation systems. You will design, implement, validate, and deploy state-estimation software that combines vehicle sensor data to provide reliable real-time pose estimates. You will shape the technical architecture and roadmap, resolve system-level integration issues, and mentor engineers.
Requirements
- Expertise in localisation, state estimation, or sensor fusion using GNSS, IMU, and wheel-odometry measurements
- Understanding of Kalman-family filters, including EKF or UKF, and nonlinear optimisation approaches such as factor graphs
- Experience developing production localisation or state-estimation systems for robotics, autonomous vehicles, or comparable real-time systems
- Modern C++ software-engineering skills
- Python proficiency for prototyping, analysis, validation, and test tooling
- Experience with localisation validation, accuracy metrics, uncertainty evaluation, ground-truth comparison, regression testing, and failure analysis
- Technical leadership experience, including architecture definition, roadmap influence, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the onboard localisation architecture and technical roadmap
- Lead development of state-estimation systems that fuse GNSS, IMU, and wheel-odometry signals
- Take localisation solutions from algorithm design through production deployment on real-time vehicle platforms
- Develop validation, benchmarking, ground-truth comparison, performance metrics, and regression testing
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship across localisation and state-estimation work
- Drive integration and resolve complex system-level issues
Benefits
- Hybrid working policy
