Staff Embedded Client Platform Engineer
Skills
About the Role
You will own and evolve the embedded client platform, beginning with Excel and extending to PowerPoint and future analyst tools. You will design reliable integrations for constrained host environments, protect workbook and file integrity, optimize performance, support offline and enterprise-restricted environments, and establish testing, observability, and deployment practices. You will unify fragmented Excel tools, create reusable client-development abstractions, and mentor engineers working on constrained client systems.

- Experience embedding software into a non-owned host environment
- JavaScript and TypeScript skills
- Event-driven programming experience
- Performance profiling and optimization experience in constrained runtimes
- Experience with enterprise deployment, updates, version skew, and rollback
- Testing and observability knowledge for client-side systems
- Ability to mentor engineers and set technical standards
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture and reliability of Excel integrations, including Office Add-ins, JavaScript/TypeScript, and legacy components
- Define boundaries between workbook state, plugin state, and cloud state
- Ensure zero data corruption and strict Excel file-integrity guarantees
- Optimize operations for fast local and remote performance
- Design for offline use, slow networks, proxies, single sign-on, and locked-down enterprise IT environments
- Establish testing, observability, and deployment best practices for desktop and embedded environments
