About the Role
You will lead strategic sourcing and procurement for mechanical commodities supporting aerospace and defense programs. You will qualify and manage suppliers, evaluate quotations, negotiate commercial terms, coordinate with Engineering on manufacturability, and maintain material readiness, supplier performance, and procurement data.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
- 5+ years of strategic sourcing, purchasing, or supply-chain-management experience with mechanical commodities in aerospace, defense, or regulated manufacturing.
- Experience sourcing mechanical commodities such as machined components, sheet metal, welded assemblies, structural components, castings, forgings, fasteners, hardware, composites, tubes, or fittings.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, bills of material, and manufacturing specifications.
- Experience negotiating supplier pricing, lead times, and commercial terms.
- Knowledge of CNC machining, welding, fabrication, finishing, heat treat, plating, and assembly.
- Familiarity with AS9100, First Article Inspection, and supplier qualification.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Excel.
Responsibilities
- Own sourcing and procurement of mechanical commodities.
- Identify, qualify, onboard, and manage suppliers.
- Request and evaluate supplier quotations.
- Perform cost analyses and negotiate pricing and lead times.
- Execute purchase orders and long-term agreements.
- Review drawings, specifications, GD&T, manufacturing requirements, and engineering changes with Engineering.
- Track supplier delivery, quality, responsiveness, and capacity.
- Drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
- Support new product introduction through material readiness, supplier capacity, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Resolve supply-chain issues and expedite critical hardware.
- Coordinate First Article Inspection, PPAP, AS9100 compliance, and supplier qualification activities.
- Monitor supply risks, capacity constraints, and long-lead materials.
- Develop mitigation plans for uninterrupted production.
- Maintain ERP supplier, lead-time, pricing, sourcing, and purchasing data.
- Identify cost-saving, lead-time-reduction, process-improvement, and supplier-consolidation opportunities.
