About the Role
You will design, build, and maintain Scala backend systems for evaluation, risk, and trading services. You will develop actor-based and event-driven workflows, own features from technical specification through production hand-off, design PostgreSQL data models, troubleshoot distributed production issues, improve observability and code quality, contribute to architecture decisions, and mentor other engineers.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience
- Experience building production systems with real-time data concurrency and high availability
- Strong hands-on Scala expertise
- Experience with Akka Pekko or equivalent actor-based concurrency models
- PostgreSQL schema design indexing and query optimization skills
- Experience with event-driven architectures message buses and asynchronous workflows
- Strong troubleshooting skills across distributed systems
- Ability to write technical specifications scope work and identify risks
- High standards for code tests documentation and pull requests
- Ability to adapt quickly when priorities shift
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple complex backend efforts
- Experience with trading platforms fintech or capital markets technology is a plus
- Understanding of order routing market data position management risk liquidation logic and P&L calculation is a plus
- Familiarity with Protobuf gRPC or schema-based service contracts is a plus
- Experience modernizing legacy Scala systems or evaluating Scala to Rust or Go transitions is a plus
- Observability experience is a plus
- Enterprise or B2B partner integration experience is a plus
Responsibilities
- Design and implement Scala backend services
- Build actor-based systems for high-throughput event-driven workflows
- Own features from technical specification through production hand-off
- Design PostgreSQL data models and database changes
- Diagnose and resolve complex backend and production issues
- Review code and enforce standards for testing instrumentation and observability
- Translate business requirements into scoped and estimated technical work
- Contribute to architectural decisions and technical-debt remediation
- Mentor junior engineers
- Develop expertise in evaluation platforms and partner integrations
