About the Role
You will lead mechanical field engineering from construction completion through commissioning and initial compute loading. You will inspect installations, validate test results and readiness, manage deficiencies, support testing and startup, troubleshoot cooling systems, coordinate delivery partners, document handoff, mentor engineers, and travel extensively.
Requirements
- Significant experience delivering, commissioning, or operating mechanical systems in data centers, mission-critical facilities, central plants, or industrial environments
- Understanding of hydronic systems, heat transfer, pumping, heat exchangers, heat rejection, air cooling, and liquid cooling
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, equipment submittals, mechanical layouts, control sequences, test reports, and construction documentation
- Hands-on experience with site inspections, pressure testing, flushing, water treatment, testing and balancing, equipment startup, or commissioning
- Understanding of mechanical redundancy, failure isolation, thermal ride-through, maintainability, and operational risk
- Understanding of construction safety, lockout/tagout, stored-energy hazards, and safe startup practices
- Willingness to travel extensively and spend extended periods at active construction and commissioning sites
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent practical experience
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical field engineering from construction completion through commissioning, cooling-system bring-up, and initial compute loading
- Perform site walkdowns and verify installed systems against approved designs and standards
- Validate equipment installation, piping, instrumentation, insulation, maintenance access, labeling, and flow direction
- Confirm redundancy, isolation boundaries, failure domains, bypasses, drains, vents, and maintenance provisions
- Inspect cooling plants, water systems, liquid-cooling loops, and associated equipment
- Review testing, flushing, water treatment, balancing, and equipment-startup results
- Identify deficiencies and operational risks, document punch-list items, and drive closure
- Witness factory acceptance, site acceptance, functional performance, and integrated systems testing
- Develop and review startup plans, operating procedures, commissioning scripts, and safety controls
- Troubleshoot mechanical and controls issues during system bring-up
- Confirm cooling readiness before GPU infrastructure is placed under load
- Coordinate delivery partners and validate turnover documentation
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership during startup and commissioning
