About the Role
Design, build, and maintain core software platforms using Java and Spring while leading technical planning, maintaining code quality, mentoring engineers, improving development processes, supporting hiring, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver scalable payment technology solutions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience designing and building robust scalable software systems
- Deep expertise in Java, Spring, and Spring Boot
- Strong SQL and relational database design skills
- RESTful API design and consumption
- Familiarity with OpenAPI
- Experience or familiarity with Angular, React, MySQL, Kafka, Zookeeper, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Version control, build configuration, and automation tooling
- Automated and manual testing
- Unit testing frameworks
- Excellent communication skills
- Team leadership and guidance experience
- Based in Malta or open to relocation
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain understanding of software platforms, business logic, infrastructure, and delivery processes
- Lead the design and planning of technical and product initiatives
- Make engineering decisions aligned with business objectives
- Set benchmarks for code quality and engineering best practices
- Collaborate within a cross-functional team to deliver software solutions
- Own team output and ensure quality and process standards
- Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and project leadership
- Deliver training sessions and technical talks
- Identify technical challenges and lead effective solutions
- Improve collaboration by addressing skill gaps and inefficiencies
- Communicate technical decisions, standards, and processes
- Support recruitment and evaluate candidate competencies
