About the Role
You will research, report, and write news stories, press releases, profiles, Q&As, feature articles, social posts, and donor reports. You will translate AI and neuroscience research into clear narratives for scientific and general audiences. You will source story ideas, manage social media channels and strategy, maintain relationships with Institute contributors, and edit colleagues' content when assigned.
Requirements
- Have a bachelor's degree
- Have 4 or more years of science news writing or comparable journalism experience
- Demonstrate storytelling skills and news judgment
- Demonstrate fluency in natural intelligence, artificial intelligence, or related topics
- Interpret peer-reviewed research and conduct effective interviews
- Write and edit accurately under deadline
- Fact-check content and secure source approvals
- Manage multiple projects and shifting deadlines
- Use Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, WordPress, or similar CMS tools
- Submit a cover letter, resume, and three relevant science writing samples
Responsibilities
- Research, report, and write original science content
- Translate complex AI and neuroscience research into accessible narratives
- Produce accurate, publish-ready content
- Generate and develop original story ideas
- Maintain coverage across the website, social media, newsletter, and Harvard publications
- Develop relationships with faculty, researchers, and students
- Collaborate with communications colleagues
- Manage social media channels and implement social media strategy
- Serve as a backup copy editor when assigned
