About the Role

You will lead process hazard reviews and risk assessments for laboratory systems and hazardous operations. You will establish operational safety and reliability programs, implement machine safeguarding and functional safety controls, maintain EHS standards, investigate incidents, support regulatory compliance, and serve as Chemical Hygiene Officer.

Requirements

  • 7–10+ years of EHS, process safety, or chemical operations experience
  • Experience leading HAZOPs or FMEAs
  • Experience running PSSR and MOC programs
  • Functional safety knowledge, including interlocks and safety PLCs
  • Knowledge of ISO 13849 and IEC 61508
  • Knowledge of Cal/OSHA, OSHA PELs, ACGIH TLVs/BEIs, NIOSH, and ANSI standards
  • Ability to work on-site in a high-complexity laboratory environment

Responsibilities

  • Lead and document HAZOPs, PHA/FMEAs, and risk assessments for processes and laboratory systems
  • Establish operational readiness and laboratory reliability systems, including PSSR, MOC, commissioning validation, alarm rationalization, procedures, and equipment inspections
  • Implement machine safeguarding, fail-safes, interlocks, robotics safety controls, functional safety validation, safety PLC reviews, and motion hazard assessments
  • Develop and maintain scalable EHS standards, specifications, procedures, and governance systems
  • Collaborate on training an LLM to reason through process hazards, risk assessments, and safety constraints
  • Provide chemical-safety expertise for high-throughput R&D and thin-film laboratory systems
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, injury reporting, recordkeeping, and corrective actions
  • Assess permitting and MAQ implications and support fire marshal, CUPA, CERS, and BAAQMD compliance
  • Serve as Chemical Hygiene Officer and maintain the Chemical Hygiene Plan
