About the Role
Take architectural ownership of the agent-readable Shop Builder platform as the most senior individual contributor on the DevX and AI team. Define how developers and AI agents interact with foundational capabilities including UI as Data, custom blocks, themes, data binding, catalog, and payments.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional engineering experience and a Staff or Principal engineering track record.
- Deep expertise designing and shipping public APIs and SDKs, including versioning, backwards compatibility, and developer ergonomics.
- Expert-level JavaScript or TypeScript and React proficiency.
- Hands-on experience building CLI tooling and local developer workflows.
- Understanding of MCP or equivalent agentic tool-use interfaces and practical experience building reliable AI-agent tools.
- Experience building globally scalable systems on AWS or GCP with containerization, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Ability to write and reason about LLM-friendly documentation and API surfaces.
- Exceptional technical communication, including RFCs, ADRs, and architecture reviews.
- Comfort operating in a greenfield context.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical architecture of the agent-readable Shop Builder platform across REST, SDK, MCP, and CLI surfaces.
- Define interface contracts for LLMs and developers, including React component APIs, custom block schemas, theme tokens, and data binding formats.
- Design and lead delivery of the MCP server for building, deploying, and operating Shop Builder storefronts.
- Architect the CLI and local development environment for scaffolding, local iteration, previews, and production deployment.
- Define deployment, versioning, and rollback models for developer-published content.
- Design sandbox and preview environments for safe iteration.
- Set documentation standards for LLMs and humans across all product surfaces.
- Lead evaluation harness architecture for LLM-generated blocks, themes, and layouts.
- Collaborate with engineers across payments, authentication, live operations, and catalog.
- Serve as technical bar-raiser, review critical implementation decisions, and mentor engineers.
- Contribute to hiring and define the team’s technical culture.
