About the Role

You will operate mobile heavy equipment to excavate, farm, and handle waste coal fines and coarse waste coal; load and unload trucks; place, compact, and grade ash and soil for final cover; mix soils and plant grasses; service and maintain equipment; perform site maintenance; control dust, erosion and water treatment; and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five to ten years experience in surface mining or surface reclamation
  • Thorough understanding of heavy equipment operation and mine site reclamation activities
  • Ability to monitor and record fuel site activities
  • Ability to recognize problems and communicate them to management

Responsibilities

  • Excavate waste coal and farm waste coal fines
  • Load and unload trucks
  • Excavate, store, place, compact and grade clay and ash for final cover
  • Mix soil for final cover and plant grasses to establish vegetative cover
  • Service mobile equipment and perform mechanical maintenance as required
  • Maintain site access and perform basic site housekeeping
  • Ensure equipment and site conditions meet MSHA safety and health standards
  • Comply with state, federal and local environmental laws and assist in dust, erosion, sedimentation and water treatment controls
  • Assist in controlling fuel quality through sampling, top sizing and removal of tramp materials
  • Safely operate front-end loader, bulldozer, track excavator, water trucks, dump trucks, pumps and other site equipment
