About the Role
You will design and execute policy-engagement strategy, monitor emerging issues, and build relationships across California’s policy community. You will organize meetings and events, represent the organization at Capitol forums, coordinate with advocacy and internal teams, and track the impact of policy activities.
Requirements
- Advanced degree in public policy, science, engineering, or a related field, or 3+ years of equivalent experience
- Understanding of the California legislative process and direct policymaker-engagement experience
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to distill complex topics for diverse audiences
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work across teams
- Interpersonal and collaboration skills
Responsibilities
- Design and execute policy-engagement strategy
- Identify emerging policy issues and collaboration opportunities
- Build relationships with policymakers and connect their needs to science-service work
- Track and assess policy-engagement activities
- Build relationships with legislators, staff, government personnel, contractors, Board members, Fellows, and partners
- Organize meetings, briefings, and events
- Represent the organization at hearings, receptions, and public forums
- Develop annual workplans with the external advocacy team
- Advise internal teams on policy strategy and legislative environments
