About the Role
You'll lead database development within Spice.ai OSS, designing and building high-performance database engine features across Spice.ai, Apache DataFusion, Arrow, Iceberg, and duckdb-rs. You'll work side-by-side with the founders as a leader and outstanding contributor to the open-source project, help design and build the Spice.ai Cloud Platform, take ownership of initiatives to improve the offerings, and work directly with enterprise customers to enable their scenarios. In your first week you'll contribute a bug fix or minor improvement, ramp up over your first month with meaningful contributions, take ownership of a feature area within 30-60 days, and propose and execute technical strategy within 60-90 days.
Requirements
- 2+ years professional Rust experience or 5+ years professional C/C++ experience
- Experience in designing, implementing, scaling, and shipping production database-engines, distributed, and data systems
- A track record of strong design, architectural, engineering, and product decisions
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to ramp up quickly and hit the ground running
- Ideally, experience contributing to open-source projects
- Experience with Apache infra, CNCF-stack, or cloud-native development
