About the Role
You will lead the design, development, and operation of the machines layer, including bare-metal and cloud hosts and their control plane. You will manage engineers while remaining hands-on with hardware provisioning, networking, imaging, monitoring, repair automation, and production incident response.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience writing high-quality production code
- 3+ years of direct people management experience
- Experience operating large fleets of physical hardware or building their control planes
- Strong cloud skills
- Knowledge of Linux kernel, drivers, networking, file systems, and containers
- Experience working with hardware and colocation providers
- Experience setting technical direction and driving architectural decisions
- Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and respond to production incidents
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and maintenance of machine-layer systems
- Manage the lifecycle of physical and cloud hosts
- Provision, image, monitor, and repair machines through the control plane
- Benchmark new hardware and perform network bring-up
- Manage kernel, image, GPU, and disk health
- Automate remediation of unhealthy hosts
- Manage 3–8 engineers
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to production incidents
