Skills

About the Role

You'll take ownership of BVNK's design system, which is already built on atomic principles with React components, Storybook examples, and Zeroheight documentation. You'll tighten patterns, improve documentation, and enable cohesive builds for the growing number of designers, PMs, and engineers working directly in the system, including those prototyping with AI tools like Claude. You'll sit within the Core Platform pod, report to the Head of Design, and pair closely with the Principal Designer for Core Platform and Principal Front-end engineers to set the strategic direction of the system, which supports around fifty people across design, front-end, backend, and product. You'll be expected to work AI-first, using LLMs to clarify intent, draft PRDs, pressure-test approaches, and prototype components, while advocating for the system's value across the wider organization.

Requirements

  • Experience shipping and governing a design system in production used by multiple product teams
  • Senior craft across Figma, tokens, component architecture, and the design-engineering handshake
  • Working technical literacy in HTML, CSS, and React/TypeScript
  • Ability to read component code fluently and reason about implementation tradeoffs with front-end engineers
  • Evidence of running a real roadmap for a system and the metrics that justified decisions
  • Fluent, daily use of LLMs and AI prototyping tools as part of actual workflow
  • Experience in fintech, payments, crypto/stablecoins, or another regulated domain is a plus but not required
  • Excellent written communication

Responsibilities

  • Set and ship the design system roadmap, deciding what to build, deprecate, or leave alone
  • Keep the Figma-Storybook-Zeroheight stack tight with one source of truth per concept
  • Partner with front-end on contribution flows, component APIs, and the design-to-code handshake
  • Read and reason about component code to understand props and composition
  • Run governance work including audits, deprecations, docs hygiene, and naming
  • Build the system so LLMs and AI prototyping tools generate against it with minimal drift
  • Use AI to audit existing patterns, draft component documentation, scaffold components, and pressure-test API design
  • Treat PMs prototyping with AI as a real user group and track their drift as signal
  • Share learnings about AI-friendly system design with the wider design and product org
  • Use Claude to clarify intent, draft short PRDs, and surface risks before involving the wider team
  • Prototype with Claude Code and guide generated components on structure, behaviour, and quality
  • Create new Claude plugins and Skills to keep design prompts consistent
  • Articulate the system's impact through metrics such as adoption, contribution rates, and time-to-ship
  • Demo and share patterns and decisions with designers, engineers, and PMs
  • Run crits and reviews around system changes and mentor designers contributing to the system
  • Build the case for further investment in the system as it grows
