About the Role
You will serve as the US legal advisor, overseeing legal, regulatory, commercial, governance, and risk matters. You will provide product and commercial counsel, negotiate strategic agreements, advise executive leadership and the board, lead the US legal team, maintain regulatory compliance, and manage disputes and litigation.
Requirements
- Extensive legal leadership experience in fintech, payments, or technology.
- Expertise in commercial law and negotiating and structuring strategic agreements.
- Experience providing legal guidance to product and business development teams in a highly regulated sector.
- In-depth knowledge of US financial services, payments, and fintech regulatory frameworks.
- Working knowledge of global regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to interpret and adapt to evolving regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
- Project management skills and ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines.
- Business acumen and ability to understand complex product use cases.
- Ability to translate legal concepts into practical guidance.
- Strong drafting and communication skills.
- Experience leading and growing high-performing legal teams.
Responsibilities
- Act as the lead legal partner to the US business on commercial and product matters.
- Provide legal and regulatory counsel throughout the product lifecycle.
- Draft, negotiate, and review customer, partnership, vendor, and strategic agreements.
- Ensure products, customer propositions, and go-to-market strategies meet legal and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and implement the US legal strategy.
- Advise executive leadership and the board on legal and regulatory matters.
- Build and lead the internal US legal team and manage external counsel relationships.
- Collaborate with Mastercard’s legal team on BVNK integration matters.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and international payments and fintech laws.
- Monitor regulatory developments and advise on business impact.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
- Oversee US corporate governance matters and risk mitigation policies.
- Support the US board through preparation of materials and participation in meetings.
- Manage legal disputes, litigation, and arbitration proceedings.
- Lead and mentor the legal team.
- Share US legal developments, precedents, and best practices with the group legal team.
