About the Role
You will lead legal strategy for complex collaborations, partnerships, and institutional arrangements. You will advise senior leaders on governance, compliance, regulatory, conflict, and risk matters; oversee strategic agreements; build legal processes; manage legal staff and outside counsel; and provide practical independent advice.
Requirements
- JD
- Active membership in the State Bar of California or immediate eligibility to practice as Registered In-House Counsel in California
- Executive-team leadership experience
- People-management experience
- 15+ years of relevant legal experience
- Experience advising senior stakeholders on complex legal and strategic matters
- Experience leading or supporting high-stakes negotiations and transactions
Responsibilities
- Lead legal strategy for collaborations, partnerships, and institutional arrangements
- Advise leadership on governance, compliance, conflicts, regulatory matters, and risk
- Oversee legal agreements with strategic partners
- Identify legal pathways for new initiatives while protecting institutional interests
- Support business development and strategic growth initiatives
- Build and improve legal processes, policies, and frameworks
- Manage and develop the legal team and supervise outside counsel
- Provide practical, independent counsel to senior operational and scientific leadership
