About the Role
You will be a Staff-level Backend Engineer ready to transition into an Engineering Team Lead role within 3–6 months for the Alterya team, an innovation hub at the intersection of AI, fraud prevention, and large-scale data intelligence. You will eventually be responsible for the growth, delivery, and technical excellence of one of its core squads, leading a high-performing team of engineers building and scaling the APIs and data layers that global institutions rely on to stop crime, manage risk, and fight fraud. You'll drive technical guidance and career coaching, own the architecture of ETLs and data layers, partner with Product Managers on the roadmap, and optimize the stack from PostgreSQL queries to Kubernetes-based deployments.
Requirements
- Deep Python expertise, including FastAPI and serving requests at scale
- Proven track record of building and optimizing data pipelines, ETLs, and Big Data systems at scale
- AI-first engineering mindset with experience supporting, building, and deploying AI tooling such as LLMs and agents
- 6+ years of backend experience, with experience leading projects or mentoring teams
- Strong familiarity with PostgreSQL, Redis, and BigQuery
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with leaders and fellow leads across teams
- Preference for a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment
- Commitment to clean, scalable, and testable code
Responsibilities
- Drive a team of experienced software engineers, providing technical guidance, career coaching, and fostering a culture of high performance and continuous learning
- Own the architecture of ETLs and data layers, making systems run 100x faster and handling massive data volumes with precision
- Mentor a team of senior engineers, driving code quality, performance-critical flows, and architectural standards
- Partner with Product Managers to translate complex fraud-prevention requirements into robust, production-grade technical solutions
- Overhaul scalability and efficiency across the stack, from PostgreSQL queries to Kubernetes-based deployments
