About the Role
You will build, lead, and continuously improve the SOX compliance program. Own SOX strategy, risk assessments, scoping, testing, documentation, remediation, and executive reporting. Partner across functions to design effective controls, support audits, and improve control effectiveness.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- CPA, CIA, or equivalent professional certification
- 15+ years of progressive experience in SOX compliance, internal audit, external audit, accounting, or internal controls
- Experience leading SOX programs for public companies or organizations preparing for public-company readiness
- Knowledge of SOX 404 requirements, the COSO Internal Control Framework, and SEC reporting
- Experience with business process controls, entity-level controls, and IT general controls
- Experience managing external auditors and coordinating complex compliance activities
- Project management, analytical, and organizational skills
- Written and verbal communication skills, including executive presentations
Responsibilities
- Own and lead the end-to-end SOX 404 compliance program
- Develop and maintain the annual SOX strategy, risk assessment, scoping, testing plan, and compliance calendar
- Partner with control owners to document, assess, and improve business processes and internal controls
- Coordinate the annual SOX assessment and support external audit requirements
- Evaluate control deficiencies, facilitate root cause analysis, and drive remediation
- Monitor regulatory developments and enhance the SOX program
- Ensure controls are designed into new processes and technologies
- Drive automation and continuous monitoring opportunities
- Develop executive-level reporting on program status, risks, and remediation progress
- Establish SOX policies, methodologies, documentation standards, and training programs
- Support internal control, governance, and enterprise risk initiatives
- Help define the SOX function structure and develop team members as the program expands
