Working closely with Engineering, Product, and Infrastructure teams, you'll design, maintain, and optimize high-performance, high-transactional database systems running on PostgreSQL on AWS Aurora, powering millions of users. You'll combine deep technical expertise with technical leadership, driving best practices for database design, performance, reliability, and long-term scalability.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in database engineering, database architecture, or backend infrastructure
- Deep expertise in PostgreSQL, with specific experience in performance tuning, indexing, transactions, and replication
- Strong experience managing and optimizing databases on AWS Aurora for high-traffic, transactional environments
- Strong experience designing database architectures for microservices-based systems
- Excellent SQL and data modeling skills
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, scalability, and high availability
- Experience working closely with backend engineering teams throughout the software development lifecycle
- Experience with Redis or similar caching technologies, including cache design, invalidation, and eviction strategies
- Strong ownership mindset and ability to drive technical decisions across multiple teams
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture, design, and maintenance of database systems across production services
- Design scalable schemas, data models, indexing strategies, and database architecture optimized for PostgreSQL on AWS Aurora
- Lead database performance optimization, query tuning, and capacity planning to support high-transactional workloads
- Define best practices for database development, migrations, versioning, and operational excellence within a microservices ecosystem
- Partner with backend engineers to review schema changes and ensure scalable application design
- Design highly available, resilient, and secure database infrastructure on AWS
- Drive database reliability, backup, disaster recovery, and replication strategies
- Evaluate new database technologies and recommend architectural improvements
- Design and implement Redis caching strategies to improve performance and reduce latency for high-transactional workloads
- Mentor engineers and establish engineering standards for database development across the organization
