About the Role
You will partner with the Product Owner and Chief Engineer to understand and prioritize customer needs. You will translate those needs into epics and user stories, manage the Shoal 1 backlog, support sprint planning and reviews, coordinate dependencies, and help integrate the operator interface and platform vendors.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related technical field or equivalent military or operational experience
- 3+ years of product ownership or related experience
- Proficiency with Jira and Confluence, including authoring and managing epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria in an agile environment
- Ability to maintain an integrated view of a complex product across documentation and engineering disciplines
- Willingness to install, configure, and run mission scenarios using the operator interface
- Technical fluency in mission autonomy, autonomous systems, flight software, ground control systems, HMIs, or avionics interfaces
- Written and oral communication skills across technical audiences
- Problem-solving, decision-making, and judgment under ambiguity
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- U.S. person status under ITAR
- Active U.S. DoD Secret security clearance at hire and ability to maintain higher-level clearance or access
- Ability to travel domestically approximately 15–25%
Responsibilities
- Understand customer product needs and determine priorities with the Product Owner and Chief Engineer
- Elicit and validate customer needs, priorities, guidance, and scoping documents
- Translate customer intent into user stories and epic descriptions with success criteria, acceptance criteria, dependencies, risks, and timelines
- Manage the Shoal 1 epic backlog and maintain traceability to customer requirements
- Refine the backlog and document priority or scope changes and their rationale
- Provide product input during Shoal 1 sprint planning and review ceremonies
- Maintain an integrated product map of epics, interfaces, dependencies, and program milestones
- Manage dependencies across shoals and communicate integration decisions to relevant leads and partners
- Support operator-interface development and integration through backlog descriptions, communication, and prioritization
- Use the operator interface weekly to develop HMI-specific epics and instructions from firsthand experience
- Support the platform integration crew in vendor interactions
- Translate terminology across disciplines and make specialist discussions accessible to the team
- Support other shoals through observation of operator-in-the-loop activity and review-session feedback
