About the Role
You will translate ambiguous product needs into technical designs, interfaces, workflows, and sequenced implementation plans. You will make architectural decisions across a large-scale data platform and own components from design through production. You will build with Go, Kotlin, Rust, and Python, focusing on reliable ingestion, distributed processing, data lake storage, correctness, and performance. You will also improve design reviews and testing practices while mentoring other engineers through your work.
Requirements
- Demonstrate strong computer science fundamentals and the ability to adapt to new technologies and problem spaces
- Reason from first principles by identifying assumptions, constraints, and invariants
- Have designed and shipped distributed data systems
- Understand distributed-system contracts, state transitions, invariants, failure modes, fault models, and scaling weaknesses
- Work effectively with ambiguous requirements and commit to a defensible scope
- Communicate with product stakeholders, customers, and engineers
- Use AI tools effectively and understand their failure modes
- Communicate clearly in writing within a distributed team
Responsibilities
- Translate product requirements into technical requirements by modeling domains, defining interfaces and workflows, and evaluating trade-offs
- Break large problems into sequenced work that other engineers can own
- Drive high-impact architectural decisions across the data platform
- Own components end to end from design through production
- Build across the stack using Go, Kotlin, Rust, and Python
- Choose appropriate technologies for each problem
- Design large-scale ingestion, distributed processing, and data lake storage for correctness and performance
- Improve design reviews, testing practices, and work decomposition
- Mentor engineers by example
