About the Role
You will set the technical direction for sensing end-of-arm tooling, physical interfaces, and model-training tasks. You will define requirements and standards, lead reviews, develop and validate hardware, partner across mechanical, electrical, software, and ML disciplines, mentor engineers, and use field data to improve designs.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years in robotics, automation, or industrial hardware development with real-world deployed systems
- Technical leadership of a hardware product or subsystem from concept through deployment
- Experience designing end-of-arm tooling, grippers, or sensor-integrated robotic payloads
- Mechanical design knowledge affecting sensor calibration and performance
- Experience defining electromechanical interfaces including connectors, cabling, tool changers, and communication protocols
- Familiarity with imitation or demonstration-based learning and data-collection design
- SolidWorks or equivalent CAD proficiency
- PDM-based release workflow experience
Responsibilities
- Own the technical roadmap for sensing end-of-arm tooling, physical interfaces, and training-task design
- Translate product goals and model-training needs into hardware requirements and interface specifications
- Lead design reviews and establish standards for robustness, serviceability, and manufacturability
- Identify and retire technical risks before field deployment
- Lead the design of sensor-integrated end-of-arm tooling
- Define sensor placement, calibration, and mounting
- Drive tooling from concept through production release
- Define mechanical, electrical, and data interfaces across robots, tools, sensors, fixtures, and workpieces
- Establish reusable and serviceable interface standards
- Design tasks, fixtures, parts, and environments for demonstration and training-data collection
- Define task variation, difficulty, and success criteria for industrial work
- Own requirements, design, prototyping, validation, deployment, and improvement
- Align hardware with product goals across mechanical, electrical, software, and ML teams
- Mentor engineers
- Work with vendors, suppliers, and the shop to produce hardware
- Drive root-cause analysis and design improvements using field and reliability data
