About the Role
You will define landing gear architectures, design mechanisms and structures, perform sizing and analysis, select components, and manage technical supplier work. You will support qualification, prototype integration, taxi testing, flight testing, and rapid resolution of mechanism issues.
Requirements
- 7 to 12 years of direct aerospace mechanism design, aircraft landing gear systems, or primary structural development experience
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Mastery of solid mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, fatigue, materials selection, GD&T, and tolerance stack-ups
- Capability performing hand calculations and FEA for high-load mechanisms and structures
- Extensive 3D CAD modeling, mechanism layout, drawing release, and PLM workflow experience
- Experience sourcing aerospace hardware, working with suppliers, and supporting physical builds and test rigs
- Ability to self-direct and deliver hardware under tight timelines
- Secret eligible
Responsibilities
- Lead landing gear architecture definition and trade studies
- Own the CAD design lifecycle from concept through drawing release
- Perform stress, fatigue, finite element, and dynamic landing-load analyses
- Size and select wheels, tires, brakes, shock absorption systems, actuators, and steering mechanisms
- Author technical specifications and statements of work
- Evaluate vendors and drive supplier technical execution
- Define verification test plans and mechanical test fixtures
- Support drop testing and functional validation
- Support prototype assembly, ground taxi testing, and flight test operations
- Investigate root causes and implement design changes
