About the Role
You will lead the technical direction and architecture of human-machine interface capabilities for autonomous systems. You will build mission-planning, command-and-control, supervision, and debrief applications; integrate frontends with platform services; and mentor engineers through design, testing, and operational support.
Requirements
- Tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Mechatronics, or a related discipline
- Significant professional experience delivering complex user-facing software
- Experience with modern HMI or frontend stacks such as React, TypeScript, HTML/CSS, or Qt/QML
- Strong C++ fundamentals and production native software, backend-service, integration, or performance-sensitive systems experience
- Experience with APIs, distributed systems, asynchronous data flows, messaging, service integration, data models, and client/server architectures
- Experience developing interfaces consuming real-time or high-rate data
- Experience owning software capabilities from architecture through operational support
- Debugging, profiling, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Experience mentoring engineers and leading technical decisions
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Australian Government security clearance
Responsibilities
- Lead technical direction and architecture for HMI capabilities
- Design and deliver mission-planning, command-and-control, vehicle-supervision, system-health, and debrief applications
- Build map-centric interfaces that convey vehicle state, autonomy intent, mission status, constraints, and alerts
- Develop HMI applications using React, TypeScript, and Qt/QML where appropriate
- Design data flows between frontends, C++ services, backend systems, autonomy software, vehicle interfaces, simulation, telemetry, and video sources
- Define APIs, data models, schemas, interface contracts, and ICDs
- Lead design reviews, code reviews, architecture decisions, and engineering practices
- Support simulation, operator-in-the-loop testing, system integration, flight tests, field activity, and customer demonstrations
- Debug HMI and mission-system issues involving performance, memory, networking, messaging, video, and vehicle integration
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership
